The SwitchBot is a brilliant invention that can work independently without a hub, but the company recommends buying a hub if you want to make the SwitchBot work with Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT or for remote control. When paired with a Smart plug, it is recommended for use in automating home devices, such as ice machines, coffee makers and PCs. It comes with a sticky attachment allowing it to push and pull on a switch, but it only works with easy-to-turn switches because of its weak motor. It doesn't withstand water splashes since it is not waterproof. You can shim it to prevent it from popping off by adding extra Gorilla Heavy Duty Mounting tape or other materials. You have to purchase a SwitchBot for each item you want to control. However, even with a steep price, it is still considered worth it to users but one customer mentioned that the company is too greedy for selling the hub at the same price as the SwitchBot, despite the latter having an irreplaceable battery.
